An opera house is like a cathedral. A symphony carved in stone. A commission to create a building that will be remembered for what art is. A signature work packed with dreams, aspirations and the ego of the architect. There is one particular: the Palais Garnier, home of the Paris Opera. At the behest of Napoléon III, young and talented architect Charles Garnier built it for the Parisians from 1861 to 1875. To this day, the most exciting ballet companies and the most famous dancers in the world perform at this glamorous house.
