CUBA LIBRE photographed by Sara Ghazi-Tabatabai

Didn’t we do a revolution in the 1950s? Didn’t we produce the finest cigars in the world and didn’t the Buena Vista Social Club show up and everyone on this planet fell in love with their music? Well yes and no. We are ordinary people, artists or Santería priestess. We are Conrado, Barbie, Chachi, Orlando and Obdulia. And, hell, whoever said that: A caballo Regalado no se le mira el colmillo (To free a horse, you don’t need to inspect its teeth)?!
