THREEASFOUR’S MESSAGE OF PEACE AND UNITY WITH THEIR MASKS
During the current COVID-19 crisis creative energies are growing. Common mindsets are reset. Fashion is rethought. Nothing will ever be the the same again.
threeASFOUR is a trio of transnational artists based in New York City who uses fashion as their primary medium.
Founded in 2005 by Gabriel Asfour (b. Lebanon), Angela Donhauser (b. U.S.S.R) and Adi Gil (b. Israel), the collective has built a legacy of fusing cutting-edge technology with traditional craftsmanship to create clothing at the intersection of fashion and art. Drawing their core aesthetic from the universal languages of sacred geometry, threeASFOUR is devoted to the creative exploration of themes of consciousness and cultural coexistence.
“End of March 2020 an increasing number of people in our community asked if we would make masks”, explains Adi Gil, “and the New York City Governor’s office announced that they are in shortage of medical wear…”
The masks are featuring threeASFOUR’s iconic print from 2012 collection “inSALAAM inSHALOM”, celebrating the textiles of both Arabic and Jewish cultures by mixing the geometric patterns of the TWO worlds and uniting them as ONE !
“This pandemic is uniting the world under one umbrella,” says Gabi Asfour to Vogue. Under these terrible and unwanted circumstances, for the first time in our known history, all countries, cultures, religions, races, skin colors, and class systems are all collaborating towards one common goal… responding to this global pandemic.”
“We make the masks at one of our small factories…it’s a small atelier in Brooklyn… all other factories we work with are closed”, Gil continues to LetKiss,” We are making 200 pieces now as special orders for our direct community through our web-shop https://threeasfour.com/
We are also making a larger number of more medical masks that will be donated to hospitals around us in New York City. The masks are a fashion item but they have a pocket on the inside where you can insert a medical filter.”
Unity was always one of the most important concepts for threeASFOUR.
“This is a reminder to be grateful everyday for what we have and not take things for granted,” adds Gil to Vogue. “Some beautiful things are coming out of this. People are uniting in new ways and there is a collective consciousness that is growing everyday, which is a beautiful hope for the future.”
